After the death of his stepfather, fourteen-year-old P. B. Floyd moves with his mother from Oklahoma to the Oregon coast, where he makes friends with a beautiful young bird-watcher, gets a job at a marine aquarium, and adjusts to the possibility of a new stepfather.
